Birth Control Prices Fall on College Campuses

According to the Kansas Star, university pharmacies are beginning to offer birth control pills at lower co-pays than in the past. Now more than before, students are having to cut corners on almost everything, certain campuses are not allowing one of the corners to be maternity. On average, about forty percent of female students are on birth control pills according to the American College Health Association. That number may go down if the medication stays at the current price (around $25-$30 per month). The pharmacies on campus are offering many contraceptives at around a $5 co-pay, which is easy enough to swing month to month for the vast majority of students.
The University of Missouri-Kansas City fills in the neighborhood of 60 prescriptions a month for birth control. What nobody wants to see (barring perhaps some hard-line Catholic Church leaders, but let’s not go there) is fewer students taking one of the safest precautions to prevent pregnancy. With cash on the blink, campuses are trying their best to accommodate their female students in any way they can. Just, ya know, don’t be asking for lower text book prices or anything; this deal makes everyone square.
