As If the Admissions Process Wasn’t Competitive Enough…
Posted by J. Catapano , Jul, 2009 @ 14:33Now everyone who is applying must deal with the older generations heading back to school. I’m all for it, personally. I think continuing one’s education at any age is a very intelligent move. But, unfortunately, it causes a bit of trouble for those who are applying as graduates and/or undergraduates ready to get their education now for work. That’s not to say that these 30-60 year olds are going to back to school for the hell of it (though, some of them are, but then you see more people auditing instead of actually applying). These folks are continuing their education to get more work as well. Since unemployment is steadily on the rise, more and more Americans are heading back to the admissions office to get a leg up on the rest of the job market. Those of you applying for school may have to contend with people who already have a BA or MA, so just be aware of that. Try to do more volunteer work and that stuff, but we’ve talked about this stuff before. Make yourself stand out, it’s the only way to survive this madness.
