China’s Red Army Invades U.S. Schools

Okay, maybe that’s a little melodramatic, but evidently many Chinese students are coming over from China to America to get their studies done. I mean, we’re talking about a mark up of about 500% from years past. There were nearly 500 applicants from China who attempted to get into Duke University this past Fall. This seems unprecedented, and it is. In fact, such a huge shift has left a number of educators, recruiters, and admissions counselors scratching their heads. Indeed, this change comes with learning a myriad of new ways to matriculate students, getting foreign students to become comfortable in a university setting, and trying to balance such a large influx with the already overflowing amount of domestic applicants. All of these have come into question over the past year and no one has any real answers that will solve them immediately. This all needs to be carefully handled over a period of time. What that period is, I’m not sure, and I don’t know if anyone is.
Could this be China’s ultimate evil plan to infiltrate America’s institutions and take over the country? Probably not, but perhaps it’s an interest that is taking over across the Pacific. China isn’t doing so hot lately, and it’s very possible that Chinese families are aware that though the U.S. isn’t exactly ‘top dog’ economically or educationally, it still has got to be better than the Chinese educational system. As a result, and this is just my own postulation, you’re going to see this major increase in Chinese student admissions. It makes perfect sense to me. But, again, the problem is what to do with it. Colleges and universities are working hard to figure out what they should do and it’s certainly not going to be easy. But, in due time, perhaps we can educate these earnest students with through some excellent faculty. We’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out.
