How U.K. Unis Are Getting Students Tested for STDs

Sexually Transmitted Diseases run rampant through colleges and universities. Students either have no idea that they have them or find out far too late. Anonymous sex and one night stands are simply facts of life on many, many campuses. Many students have a lot of trouble understanding the gravity of the situation. There needs to be some way to get their attention and have them get their sorry asses to a doctor to get tested, especially if they’re moving from partner to partner. But, it’s tough. You want them to listen to you, but also get them to actually take action. The National Union of Students over in Britain have come up with a crackerjack plan: feed them free alcohol.
It’s getting asses in seats, that’s for sure. Students are showing up in droves for free booze as you would expect. But the problem is that many students aren’t really worried about the testing; rather, how much they can drink. I say, as long as they’re getting the tests, that’s what counts. Maybe liquor isn’t the best idea, but it’s working. There are many dissenters who believe that all this does is support binge drinking, which is something that’s being battled against at many universities. For now, though, the NUS is sticking to its guns and serving alcohol to anyone who will come and get tested. If it works, it works. They just need to be careful of sending those kids out. I hope they’re being responsible, which I’m sure they are, but they just need to be super safe.
